Site works, Structural Concrete & Masonry
Steve Bowling Contracting Ltd were contracted to carry out a Site works, Structural Concrete & Masonry Package on the One Riverside Apartments. We were engaged as a subcontractor to NPM Construction who were the head contractor on the project. Our sub-contract works included:
- Site excavation
- Temporary shoring / retaining
- Excavations of foundations
- Floor slabs – ground floor foundations, first floor & second floor
- Insitu poured columns & beams
- Rib & infill and Unispan placement
- Insitu veranda beam & column pouring
- Block & infill of 2 levels of building, 3 levels of the lift well & veranda columns.
This project demonstrates where the civil construction industry interfaces with traditional building construction, and how the skills can be applied in this application.
The main challenge of this project has been the site & location. The block of 8 apartments takes up nearly the whole site so there has been so room on site for vehicle parking, deliveries or machinery. The location is bordered by 3 roads, one of which is 4 lanes & has a constant flow of heavy traffic.
Steve Bowling Contracting Limited were involved in the design phase of this project & were able to offer value engineering to the client. The method of using blocks & smaller items on site meant that we were able to minimise the amount of craneage required and therefore minimised road closures (and cost associated with traffic management) & other disruptions.
Our subcontract works were completed in approximately 3 weeks ahead of our programme. The works were completed with no variations and under budget which was an achievement on a cost reimbursable form of contract.
