Paihia School required the removal of asbestos containing fibre cement sheeting from the exterior of a number of their classrooms, to allow for renovation and re-cladding of these areas. This involved NPM Remediation to perform work during weekend hours so as not to put any Paihia School students at risk.
A Geotextile apron was laid beneath the sheets to prevent any debris from contaminating the area during the removal process. The Asbestos sheets were removed using hand tools and suppression equipment and loaded into the back of a truck double wrapped in 200µm plastic.
After the removal area was vacuumed using equipment with specific asbestos filters and cleared by an accredited Asbestos assessor. Black polythene was installed over the exposed framing to ensure it was protected from inclement weather until cladding could be reinstated.
The school & project manager were very happy with the outcome of the project.
