NPM Remediation were contracted to remove Asbestos at the Northpower head office in Whangarei. The Asbestos was contained in Fibre cement sheets on the interior of the building. This area could not be closed down during the removal process so an enclosure had to be constructed.
A timber frame was constructed around the removal area which was then internally wrapped in 200µm plastic. Once constructed the enclosure was “fog tested” to ensure the enclosure was sealed and asbestos dust could not escape from the contaminated zone. The works were completed under “negative pressure” to ensure that if for any reason the seal was broken any dust is sucked into the enclosure, not forced out. The fibre cement sheeting was then removed using hand tools and suppression equipment.
All waste was loaded into double lined bulk bags and was transported to an approved Asbestos dump site. Air monitoring was carried out to ensure no contamination whilst all Asbestos particles were removed and clearance was given by an independent asbestos assessor.
The client was very pleased with the outcome of the project.
